With 163 billion monthly active users you know that your business should be on Facebook, but knowing just how to leverage a Facebook business page and make the most out of it is a whole different kettle of fish! Anyone with a Facebook account can create a Facebook Page within minutes. However, creating a Facebook page and creating a fantastic Facebook page that will boost your brand and engage your customers are two very different things.
There is no definite rule book as to what you should do on Facebook to make sure your social media efforts are not in vain, but here are some of my top tips that can help you and your organisation get the most out of your Facebook business page.
1. Set a custom URL/username for your Facebook page
Pick a short and memorable username that reflects your company name or brand. You cannot change your username, so think wisely and ask for a second opinion when deciding on your page’s permanent username.
2. Use linked posts to drive people to your website
Links to your website can come in many forms. For example:
- Landing pages for products
- Promotional videos
3. Like, share & comment on posts
Engagement is key when it comes to social media, especially on Facebook. Liking, sharing and commenting on posts are a great way to increase your visibility on Facebook.
4. Target posts
You can target your posts based on gender, age, location, relationship status and interests. This is great when you want to share an announcement or specific content that is only relevant to a segment of your followers.
5. Check your notifications
If you don’t check your notifications, you may be missing out on sales. If you don’t know that someone has left a question for you to answer on your Facebook page and you leave it unanswered for too long, it looks bad for your business. Show your fans and customers you care by responding in a timely manner.
6. Use photos/ videos
To get the most engagement out of your posts on your Facebook Business Page you will need to use photos and videos. Posts with either a photo or video receive 50% more engagement than those without the use of images or video’s.
7. Update your status regularly
Updating your status is important on Facebook because your fans need to see that you are actively using social media. 85% of Facebook users expect businesses to be using social media to communicate. Posting at random or not regularly enough can leave a negative impression on your page visitors and affect your reach. Also, posting too frequently can have an adverse effect on your Page engagement. Find your rhythm by testing your frequency and watching your numbers to optimize engagement.
8. Schedule posts
This feature is great if you don’t have time to update your status every day. Scheduling posts in advance allows you to plan posts to appear during the times of the day you know your fans are most engaged.
9. Use Insights to determine what is working for your page
For example, if you notice that posts with images have better reach and engagement than those that are text only, try posting more with images. Since Facebook is continually changing its edgerank algorithms, it can seem that just when you have figured out what is working best, something changes! Checking Insights will help you stay on track, no matter what.
10. Make some content exclusive to fans
People love to feel like they are getting a good deal, or something in exchange for their loyalty. Give something of value to your prospective audience but make them “Like” your Page in order to get it.
11. Make it shareable
Facebook is all about sharing and interacting with others. If you focus on giving as much value to your prospective customers as possible, they will return the favour by letting others know and providing their own network with the opportunity to experience such value. This could be an eBook, an exclusive offer, a great competition, or just really good content!
12. Share image quotes
Whether inspirational or funny, quotes reveal a lot about a brands personality. If your fans relate to the image and caption, they will be quick to like and share it.
13. Always mention users with the @ sign
If you are writing a post about a customer/business, make sure you use the @ sign to tag them in the post. This is important because you want them to know they have been mentioned by you via a notification on Facebook.
14. Pin important posts or competitions
Pinning a post to the top of your page means it will move to the top of your timeline and stay there for 7 days. This allows you to highlight an important post such as a sale, new product or event announcement.
15. Add milestones
Milestones are a great way of telling your company’s story. You should add milestones to highlight moments that you are proud of or want to emphasize such as reaching your first 100 likes, or a new member of staff joining the company.
