Have something to say that is worth reading
People have never been busier than they are today. Likewise, there has never been so much choice regarding what they can read. For your blog to attract and then keep those readers, you need to offer something which resonates with your audience. That may be through providing new information, having a unique spin on something, or allowing your personality to shine through.
First impressions count
It has never been easier or less expensive to have a professional looking blog. Despite this, many small business owners use outdated blog themes and/ or websites which are unattractive to the eye. People tend not to treat information on cheap or amateur looking blogs very seriously. There are tons of free tools out there to create a professional and clean looking blog or website, and if you don’t have the tech know how, it really is worth paying a professional.
Stop the sales pitch!
The majority of small business bloggers turn almost every post into a sales pitch. Instead of offering useful information, or having something genuine to say, they approach the blog as one long advertisement. You should strive to provide valuable information, which people will want to read, link to and share. Then, when they need to hire an expert, they already know who you are.
Integrate it with your main website
From an SEO point of view, it’s worth getting your blog integrated with your existing website to build content and make the search engines love you even more. After all, SEO is all about content. If you’re not able to do this or can’t afford to hire a website developer, then start a free blog and make sure you include links to your main website and/or social media sites.
